V and Jackie took on a high-stakes job for local fixer Dexter "Dex" DeShawn—stealing a priceless biochip known as "the Relic" from the powerful Arasaka Corporation. What seemed like a well-orchestrated plan turned into chaos as they became witnesses to the shocking murder of Saburo Arasaka, the megacorp's leader, by his own son, Yorinobu. With a cover-up underway and Arasaka’s security sweeping the area, tragedy struck as netrunners killed T-Bug during the escape.

As the Relic's case was damaged in the chaos, V was forced to insert the chip into their own head to save it, but the price was devastating. Jackie suffered fatal injuries, leaving V reeling from the loss. To make matters worse, Dex betrayed V, shooting them in the head.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure role-playing video game, developed and published by CD Projekt RED that was released December 10, 2020. The game was announced during the 2012 CD Projekt Red Summer Conference as the official video game adaption of Mike Pondsmith's pen and paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020. An expansion for the videogame, called Phantom Liberty, was released on September 26, 2023. An "Ultimate Edition", including the base game and its expansion released on December 5, 2023 alongside Patch 2.1.

A sequel codenamed Orion is currently in early development.
