At least this game shows that Lovecraft didn't care for a mythos, and that whole "insanity if you look at it!" was added in later because they realized only someone with mental illnesses and the cognitive fortitude of babyshit would find these creatures scary. Maybe that's why he resonates so well with today's audience of horror fans.
