Dangerous Curves! A Racing Game You Probably Didn't Know Existed! More VERY Rare Arcade Board Fun
I love talking about retro gaming and I love talking about arcade games...and you know full well I love my retro games rare and esoteric! So let's talk about Dangerous Curves from Taito...one of the rarest video games I own! It runs on the Taito Type JC board with a powerful for it's time Motorola 68040 CPU and its one of Taito's last bespoke arcade boards! It's no Daytona USA or Ridge Racer...but its certainly something!

If you know my channel you know I love obscure games...and it does NOT get much more obscure than Dangerous Curves by Taito. It's a classic arcade racing game and a precursor to Side by Side / Battle Gear that runs on CUSTOM Taito 3D silicon. It's one of only a handful of games released on the Taito Type JC board...the most famous being Densha De Go!...and its exceedingly rare! Sadly this is the only Type JC game that does not work via MAME emulation...and after a two year hunt I can finally show it to you as real retro gaming hardware! It's an absolute arcade hidden gem and a video game hidden gem...and a VERY RARE piece of rare gaming hardware.

Taito made AMAZING 2D games, but their transition to 3D was a little big rougher. Dangerous Curves is definitely a janky looking game filled with big chunky pixels and blocky polygonal models...but I LOVE that! Because it was still better than what PS1 / Saturn was putting up visual wise at home! It feels very similar to Ridge Racer from Namco mixed with a little bit of Daytona USA from Sega...except probably not as good as either of those racing games. Sadly right now its running...just not controlling lol
Plus it runs on a Motorola 68040 CPU which you didn't see get used very often in arcade gaming!
Consider this an arcade repair video as well...because while its not broken, it does require a lot of work to get done. Way more so that console repair!
Sure its no best arcade racing game of all time...but what can be really?
