3For Intergalactic Shmuppreciation Month 2010, this is Darius Extra.
Darius (ダライアス) is the first game in Taito's big fish series, where you battle through 7 stages and have the option to choose the next stage after the boss is beaten.
The first game featured 3 screens next to each other, creating an extra wide screen for the player. This was very unique but made the arcade cabinets very large.
Darius has really fantastic music created by Zuntata, not only does it sound great, the music is related to what the type of stage it is. Also, the Final Boss music is used in the end credits of G.Darius.
The first Darius game was a little too easy in the arcades, so Taito ramped the difficulty on Darius 2, and also remade Darius, as Darius Extra.. and made it much much harder than the original version. Also, this version gives an Extend bonus at the end of the game (1 million per life), to stop people checkpoint milking the final boss.
For a rather difficult challenge, I play the harder version. :D
