Dark Alliance - Reboot versus Original Comparison (2021 vs 2001)
Today the new edition of Dark Alliance was released. The original game was a Diablo-style co-op ARPG with a Dungeons & Dragons Icewind Dale setting, released in 2001, first for Playstation 2, then for Xbox, Gamecube and GameBoy (2002-2004). The 2021 reboot also works with the Icewind Dale scenario, but plays more like other current action titles with its third-person view. The menu and Unreal graphics reminded me a lot of Rune 2. Although I didn't play the original Dark Alliance back then, I like it a bit better in comparion because it better captures the typical Dungeons&Dragons atmosphere, as if a game master was introducing the scenario and a new quest to the players. And I have to say: Baldur's Gate 2 is still one of my favorite RPGs, I'm just old school...
