Well I've finally arrived here, after several detours and delays. It looks like I completely forgot exactly where this drops you out but at least I got to unlock an extra area in the Lost Bastille that contains an estus flask shard. Still looks like I'm gonna need to go through that one boss that I've been trying to avoid though.
