Dark Souls 3 - Sulyvahn (Solo / Uchigatana + Crest Shield, 1st run)

Figured I should make this video public, a friend was having trouble with the boss so I felt I should upload a successful run in hopes it will help him get through the fight.
Pontiff's lenghty combos eat shields for breakfast and dodges for lunch (eventually) and with this game's blocking being too unreliable for me up until this point I was reluctant to try Crest Shield with 100 % physical damage reduction. Little did I know that hugging him and going to his right in the first phase is a really easy way to evade a lot of his moves. Having fast, decent single hit damage output was important to me, so I went with an upgraded Uchigatana (+6) and Crest Shield +3. I've most gone for dexterity, strength, stamina and recently faith for a couple interesting miracles (Deep Protection and Lightning Spear).
When he activates the Sougenmu in phase 2, taking a couple sucker punches in and then just backpedalling and waiting for their jump-ins was a reliable way to get safe hits in. A lot like Ornstein & Smough, but the good thing about this phase is that the shadow clone often repositions itself behind the real Postiff, making the fight much more bearable. Both replicating their actions makes them easier to defend (or harder) against.
I could not downplay stamina's importance in this fight even if I wanted to. That 100+ stamina really put in work here.
Playing the PS4 version as it was bundled with a 1 TB PS4 at a great price. I might not upload more Dark Souls 3 videos though unless I can make an interesting metagame playthrough happen. I will say this has been mostly a fun game however. Could've taken less from Bloodborne though... where are poise and better blocking? They used to be better too. :(
