Majority of day was spent getting those first 10 seconds and then re-rendering the whole video five times as to confirm glitchy OBS recording. Try to endure the phantom framerate drops in match 2.

Cloud - Kuja. DanneD's complete domination in this MU from a handful days back was plain unacceptable, so I set out to improve at it. The lack of Jecht Block made commitment a lot more dangerous for Cloud, if I was not ready to dash through Snatch Shot (or assist punish it with Kuja assist) Cloud was as good as a freebie to Kuja. Slashing Blow easily losing against Kuja's Burst / Strike Energy didn't make Cloud's dodge punishment's too lucrative either. Double Cut into Kuja assist was easily countered by escape - Force Symphony or Ultima, so I essentially had to land a hit while Kuja was buttnaked.

To help with my hapless dodging I incorporated Adamant Chains' midair evasion distance boosts into my game for the first time. It definitely helped me out, but I feel I could abuse Kuja's lack of vertical range by dodging above him more. Burst Energy has vertical tracking, but I am not entirely sure if it effortlessly covers a forward air dodge. Probably if Kuja commits to it. But he doesn't have to most of the time. That extra mobility he gets during attacks is more than enough. It makes Aerith - Seraphic Star ridiculously safe to pull off.

And that's another point where Cloud struggles. Once Cloud gets a combo going, Kuja has way better escape and punish options. Finishing Touch and Omnislash 5 alike are easily punished by Ultima or Seraphic Star, Braver on hit is still within Force Symphony's range and Meteorain after Aerith is... questionable. Maybe from below Kuja so that the rocks combo into each other... I wonder. The only reason I even keep using Kuja assist in this matchup is because he is the only assist that can punish Snatch Shot. You don't see it here, but it has closed a couple matches for me. Kuja often works with at least one bar of assist and locking that assist is all too easy for him - Cloud has underwhelming assist protection means for stuff from above.

It's an odd mix of burst moments and patience. At mid range Cloud can't do anything and dodge punishing is only viable if he can condition Kuja to not do anything after a dodge. Omnislash 5 with feet on the ground, Cloud with a backstep dodge is pretty much free of any wakeup mixups from Kuja. He can try to mount an offensive approach from there. BRV boost on block / dodge contributes to the patient play.

Blade Beam has about the same vertical range as Double Cut on the ground does (the hit portion) and is Ranged mid. Coupled with the actual projectile that can lead into assists, it's a more versatile tool against an aerial Kuja (whenever the match is close to the ground) than a Double Cut is for me. Firaga can cover Snatch Shots and Sonic Break just in case Firaga yoinks Kuja from the Snatch Shots. Rising Fang for continuous anti-air pressure. If Cloud can somehow condition to that as well.

Too bad about that Holy though hahah.
