Day 05 // We're at the Home Stretch [followed by HARD MODE]
If I were to rate The Callisto Protocol after playing through it once on Easy Mode (followed *IMMEDIATELY* by Hard Mode/Maximum Security) I'd give it an 8 for us Dead Space fans. If I weren't a huge Dead Space Fan?? I'd say a 7.0.
There's plenty going for this new Release from the original creators of Dead Space. Once you understand the Story and Characters' Motives, it all plays out nicely even if the Story is overall basic. The biggest hindrance to Callisto Protocol here are questionable Design Choices: Why can't we move while in our Inventory, let alone move around while listening to Audio Logs?? And for the love of [insert Deity here] why are Animations, like "Health Gun" usage and the Melee Baton's Ready Stance so slow. It would also be nice if we didn't have to constantly ready our Baton for every use, or stow it for alternate actions.
The biggest offender is the Melee System: If it didn't A: Magnetize itself to the closest Enemy and B: be overly reliant on Dodging Left or Right only, we'd have a much better experience overall.
Overall, The Callisto Protocol is truly the Spiritual Successor to Dead Space. But questionable Design Choices that affect core Gameplay elements hold this one back from sheer perfection.
