Days Gone HDD vs SSD base PS4 loading time in 2021
After Sony's recent update dramatically improved loading times in various games like The Last of Us Remastered to the point where it loads nearly as quickly on HDD as on SSD, let's see what the difference is with Days Gone. Base PS4 slim, 500GB HDD model. Internal SSD used is a Crucial MX100 512GB.
Here I am simply continuing both games in progress at the same point. The Last of Us takes about 13 seconds on HDD and 8 seconds on SSD. The HDD is perfectly quick enough already. Days Gone on the other hand takes a glacial 2m41s compared to a still slow but much better 1m46s on SSD. So the HDD takes about 50% longer.
Days Gone is a fantastic game btw and the SSD helps not just with initial loading times but makes the game a bit smoother while playing as well, as it streams in the open world from the drive.
Update... I got the game on PC this week and the loading times are extremely quick, like as fast as The Last of Us Remastered is. That's just on the same sort of regular SATA SSD as I put in the PS4, so nothing fancy. I highly recommend getting the game on PC if you can.
