In this DayZ beginners guide tutorial video I discuss what happens to the insulation protection that your clothes & gear give you against the cold as those items get damp, wet and soaked.
As you get colder in DayZ, your body will use more energy to stay warm, so your food value will go down, and you can also get ill.
You should at first just get out of the rain and ring your clothes out - then start a fire or oven, and lay your clothes and gear around the fore for them to completely dry out and offer you their highest protection against the rain.
