PVP Live: Well, that took a while. Before PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, there was H1Z1: King of the Kill. Before King of the Kill, there was just plain old ordinary H1Z1, a multiplayer survival game pitting you against hordes of zombies and sociopathic fellow human players trying to craft gear and survive in a world dead set on making them join the increasing mobs of the unliving.

But H1Z1 itself was "just" the clone of another game -- the Arma 2 mod DayZ.

DayZ's much-vaunted standalone Steam Early Release launch was done with the help of Bohemia Interactive, and the publicly available access would've conceivably made it much easier to identify bugs and issues to address, as well as build up hype for the title before its official debut as a final product.

By letting people have access to the alpha build, it basically meant having a whole bunch of enthusiasts on hand to conduct quality assurance tests on the cheap.

That was back in 2013 -- four years ago. Today, Bohemia announced that Version 0.63, the next patch, will mark the game's official beta.
