Song of the Sea (Level 5)
Working time: 1 hour 50 minutes
The first song I wrote for the post-compo version of Melody Muncher, Melody Muncher Deluxe. I originally finished this song for round 359 of "One Hour Compo", a timed composition event. Ironically, I ended up having to spend an extra 45 minutes or so after the compo ended in order to tweak the mixing and balance to where I wanted it. Here the idea was to write a slower song, so that I could start using more complex rhythms without overwhelming the player right away. It takes on a similar feel to "What Lies Beneath" from Ripple Runner, with some stylistic differences. I like the way that the reverby pings and pads combine in the beginning to form an interesting sense of ambiance. As is often the case, the soaring melody and progression that happens halfway in was totally unplanned.
