I really wanted to like this game, but like many Taito games, it kept coming up short everywhere. What should have been a great run and gun turns into jank pretty quick. It's controls are weird in the places they shouldn't be. Cover seems to be annoyingly effective for some enemies but good luck finding it yourself. Some enemies just take forever to die. Sometimes you're trading shots in a way that feels pointless, but that's probably down to the odd choice of how to handle depth of field. It really doesn't do that last part well and it contributes to making everything else feel off. I think this could be fixed with a few tweaks, really, and it really should get that fix. It's a neat, stylish game with a lot of charm and a strong theme. It just doesn't feel as fun as it should.
