To get the game to through steam delete the "WAIL32.DLL" in Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Deadlock. If you don't do this the game will crash or otherwise turn black like you saw in the video.
The nostalgia driven but also genuinely interesting manual for only 5 bones.

This is my review for Deadlock Planetary Conquest.
Despite not having multiplayer or the sound working apart from the FMV cutscenes, the game is still as fun to play as it was in 96'. This is thanks to the unique humor, amount of depth within the game, and overall care taken in all aspects. Graphically too it's obviously an old game but has a good interface,FMV cutscenes look fine, and it still looks relatively sharp. There are some exploits such as the black market and relative ease to build up your population through constructing key buildings but these are only apparent once you are already decent enough at the game. Having played a bit of deadlock II these exploits have been addressed in that game.
