"01 Arrival
Boreas II, 2nd planet around Tau Ceti. Mass: 1.323 Earth mass, indigenous atmosphere density at sea level was .5 kg/m3 and consisted mostly of co2. During the first decade of colonization of the system, this planet was selected for a mining and manufacturing operation to supply further expansion into the system. To thicken the atmosphere an intensive cometary bombardment campaign was carried out on the planet, spewing up dust and steam, kickstarting a water cycle on the parched planet.
When the dust settled autonomous fabrication bots moved in to set up initial infrastructure, quickly followed by human engineers to ensure the habitats were ready to receive the small population who would supervise the planetary operations and conduct research. This small outpost was set to grow into the systems main manufacturing hub, but soon things took a turn for the worse...
About a year ago confused reports from the planet emerged about violence and rebellion, shortly before all communication stopped. Along with the end of communication the planets atmosphere suddenly began a rapid cooling, massive storms emerged around strange cold fronts, engulfing the whole planet in a layer of clouds.
When the storms subsided the previously rocky world was now a ball of ice, with freak storms appearing and disappearing without following any predictable weather patterns.
Initial probing missions have had little success, communication is lost with anything entering the atmosphere, manned attempts have not returned. Currently the planet is under quarantine and being observed from orbit.
The Sol Coalition, the main governing body in the system, has assembled a specialist task force to attempt rescue and determine the cause of the communications failure. This will be the last manned attempt to reestablish contact before a new orbital bombardment campaign will be launched."
