Demolition of Carstens Elementary School in Detroit Part 1 |The Auditorium|
Carstens Elementary School was one of the oldest standing schools in Detroit, until its Demolition in May 2025. From supporting the local neighborhood, to a fight from locals to keep the school open as one of the last anchors of the Fox Creek Neighborhood of Detroit. Carstens had a exceptional educational program however as the fox creek became more and more abandoned by 2000 the land around the school was rated at 67% vacant land. In 2011 Carstens would close, and would be torn apart by scrappers very fast, leading it to become ranked #36 of #39 of worst condition schools owned by the City of Detroit, in a 2020 study. The decision was made to demolish Carstens by 2024 and early prep work began but due to permits not being approved right away by the city the demolition did not begin until May 20th, 2025.
