NDNDNSC stands for No Deaths***, No Duping, No Second Chance.

It's been roughly eighteen months or so since I last played Demon's Souls properly, so instead of just jumping back into the game without some kind of goal or challenge, I decided to place certain restrictions to make the game harder for myself.

One of these is "No Deaths", which is very self explanatory, but restricts a lot more than just being unable to die. Without deaths, it's not possible to lower World Tendency, and even going online doesn't guarantee I'll get my desired World Tendency. Without World Tendency manipulation, I'm also unable to manipulate Character Tendency as I see fit, which ultimately ruled out doing either. This might not sound like it affects a lot, but when you're unable to freely alter World and Character Tendency, there's a lot of useful goodies you have to go without.

No Duping is also self explanatory, although this doesn't affect as much as the No Deaths restriction, it does mean that for any consumables and materials that I wanted or needed, I had to work towards. Not only that, but I felt it would just be downright cheap doing a playthrough with upgraded weapons and a Sticky Compound Longbow +5 after just a couple of bosses.

Having Second Chance is something that I felt made the No Deaths aspect a little more intimidating, especially as it's possible to put oneself at 30% or less health with Morion Blade and Clever Rat's Ring acting as a massive damage boost, without any real risk of being killed. Removing Second Chance from the equation meant that every time I wanted to go into hyper mode, I was running the risk of dying (and bringing an end to this playthrough), which made those times a more accurate representation of what a risk versus reward situation actually is.

***This excludes the forced death in any part of the tutorial stage, as it's a requirement to progress in the game without skipping the journey to the Nexus completely.
