Descent 2 - Gameplay [HD]
426Descent 2 is a first person action game made by Parallax Software and published by Interplay. It was released in 1996.
It came out the following platforms: DOS, Mac OS, Acorn Archimedes and PlayStation

There is not much to say about Descent 2 as it is almost the same as it's predecessor. But ofcourse new weapons, items and enemies have been added. Also the AI has been improved and the difficulty seems to have been increased (I played on Hotshot difficulty just like Descent 1 but the first few levels were a lot harder than in D1)
However, the best addition to Descent 2 is probably the Guide-Bot. He is present in every level and has to be found and freed from his little cage before he can help you.
The Guide-Bot, as the name suggests, can guide you through the levels. He will find all the keycards for you and the generator you just have to follow him. If you can't follow him he will come back to you to get you. He can also be ordered to search for other things like hostages,shield/energy or enemies but he is mostly useful for finding the way out. He is not invincible but can only be hurt by area damage and can take a lot of it. So if you intend to destroy it you probably can (But why would you do that you evil person?)
There is also basically a well...let's say "counterpart" to the guide bot. The Bandit or "Thief-Bot". This one is not your friend, actually it can be your worst enemy. It will hunt you and steal your items and weapons. It is fast, takes a lot of damage, can open doors and can even ambush you. However it can not attack you. It will ony steal your stuff if he can get to you without being noticed. (I try to hunt down the Bandit twice in this video, first at 01:34 and the second time at 09:00) The most effective weapon against him is the Vulcan gun because it's a hitscan weapon. If the Bandit is destroyed then he will drop all the stuff he has stolen in addition to some energy and shield items.
All in all a nice sequel although graphically it hasn't changed much. Still fun in coop but sadly no Guide-Bot in coop :-/
