Desk of Ladyada - Happy New Year of the Rabbit & Feather RP2040 Fun
This weekend at the Desk of Ladyada we worked on trying to replace and upgrade all of our 32u4 and M0 feather varieties with RP2040. This would make CircuitPython a better fit for these Feathers, especially ones like the RFM or WiFi series which could not fit the memory requirements into the SAMD21. SAMD51 would have been great but we're still having a lot of difficulty sourcing them. Most of the work was figuring out how to squish all the parts to the left-hand side: which ones we could use smaller packages and which we kept with larger ones. However, we think we're successful and have gotten something that we can use to swap different connectors/devices on: SD cards, radios, HDMI or USB host connectors! Any other devices you think we should try fitting in?
The Great Search - P-Channel MOSFET in small SMT package
https://www.digikey.com/short/0hhp0cvh
On this week's The Great Search we're looking for a P-Channel MOSFET in a small SMT package to replace the classic SOT-23 one we use for all our Feathers. In this case, we're making a very compact board so we need a smaller package! We've traditionally used the DMG2305 (https://www.digikey.com/short/4mtb0tz8) or DMG3415 https://www.digikey.com/short/jdpmrcvc as a high-current 3 or 4 Amp, 20V+, low 1Vgth, and low RdsOn of 50mOhm or less. Thankfully there's quite a few options on Digi-Key, let's look and compare what is available.
