2DM Notes: The monster of the maze (who doesn't have a name) is something else directly inspired by Pages of Pain, as is the skin-collecting demon. He dies in the book, but I didn't let that stop me. Speaking of which, I was pleasantly surprised by how deeply the death of Veng hit the players, especially since it effectively happened in a cutscene. The last thing of note is that I had been practicing and preparing for the Lady of Pain's denouement for well over a year by this point, so every question the players could possibly have asked was expected and accounted for. I even invented four pleasures to counter the four pains: joy, ecstasy, serenity, and hope. It's too bad they never asked about them.
