Early expressionist movie by Fritz Lang, which is said to have inspired Alfred Hitchcock, Luis Bunuel and others.

German silent movie, this version with english subtitles.

The german title translates into "The Weary Death", which is a reminiscence of the 30-year-war that took place in Germany from 1618-1648. There was a saying then, that so many were killed (1/3 of the population), even death himself got tired of doing his work.

The plot is actually about love beyond death and resembles the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.
