2I'm been waiting for Tomonobu Itagaki's followup to Ninja Gaiden 2 for many years. Im not a fan of the first Ninja Gaiden, but I loved NG Sigma 2's relentless aggressive gameplay. It reminded me of Ninja Gaiden OG back on the NES. However Itagaki had left Temco before Sigma 2.
I've followed his studio and its first game Devil's Third for a long time. It has a troubled history, finally landing in Nintendo's hands. I watched the reveal for wii u on IGN live back in 2014. I knew I had to have it. The multiplayer looked insane and stupid. The single player looked like it was being played by an idiot (I shoulda read the foreshadowing there). Whatever, Wii u was gonna have two exclusive action games so I scrounged up a refurbished wii u and 4 pro controllers for Bayonetta 2, Devil's Third, Smash, and Mario Kart 8. Within two weeks, I had wii u waiting for Devils Third.
And boy what a wait. The news completely stopped. I finally heard that it was like August 2th release.... but for Japan and Eurpoe??? WTF? Where is the north american release? Nintendo of America being jerks tried to not release it. But the fans made bring it to us (thats my story okay!) It finally released one week after xenoblade X, easily the Wii U's game of the year. NoA tried to bury my masterpiece.
I got my copy from Amazon(preordered months in advance)... but I didnt open yet, I had to finish Xenoblade. As I waited, the physical copy of the game went sky high on ebay... like double what it actually cost retail. Should I sale my copy and download digital? No way, I only had the joke 8gig space hdd wii u I got on the cheap. I wasnt gonna get an external hdd either... would cancel out the profit. Thankfully the Devils third price gouging speculation quickly subsided so opening it wouldnt feel like a huge self-inflicted kick in the gut.
I keep a hit list of 10 (max) games I've been working on to beat. For the better part of a year, Devils Third has been NUMBER ONE on the hit list. It must be defeated at all costs. It matters not that I hear that its supposedly a steaming pile (it is).
We must defeat this grand game! This Legendary Kusoge in its own time!
