Tekken 7 player Paul vs Akuma. The Phantom Cancel. That's what I call it. Df1b, ssl, f. But once you can effectively put it all together in a fast yet smooth rhythm, it looks like regular df1 with instant recovery. The f motion at the end maintains a close distance to the opponent. The back sway adds plus frames. Essentially, it becomes a df1 that is +1 on block. Most opponents are used to seeing the full back sway animation of Paul leaning back. This cancel makes that animation almost nonexistent! It's whiff recovery is extremely fast! I saw it used once by a Paul player named Zakto going against Knee. Until then , I had never seen that style of cancel used by a Paul. I practiced it over and over until I was consistent doing it at his speed. Eventually, I got it even faster. If anyone tries to interrupt after blocking with a mid or high, it will be automatically blocked in neutral guard! Even if you are pushing buttons! I was playing with the PC and df1b mixups in this sequence.
