While not really a big part of this game, especially with the pugilist which can't use weapons, it is important to understand what you plan to do with your skills and items. As I progress through the second part of this game I actually think about the items I use - specifically right at the start of the video with relation to sleep powder and blinding powder. Later I do it again with the Heal Spell versus the Enfeeble Spell.

Oh yea, I win against the boss - but this time you get to see it breath fire!
