As an older gamer I have been gaming since the dawn of the era. And as the power of the PC has grown and the technology has allowed for more 'realistic" graphics I have discovered that this does not translate into "better". A stylized graphical representation that does not attempt to achieve photographic replication is the way to go in my opinion. Also, there's something about the human mind that takes that stylized and less "realistic" game world and makes it our own, we "fill in the blanks" so to speak. Just look at games like the original Tomb Raider for instance, when one played it all of those years ago the world was as palpable as any photo-realistic game made today. In the case of D3, the attempt to craft a very stylized "cartoony" world works, because it is like a work of art and becomes its own reality.
