I commend Phil Spencer for his candidness and seeming honestly when interviewed. Today he fielded some tough questions from the Kinda Funny Xcast crew regarding Redfall's low review scores, the UK blocking of Microsoft's ABK acquisition and Xbox not delivering on their marketing promises.
Phil admits that PlayStation and Nintendo are firmly ahead of his ball club in the console space and more shockingly admits that simply creating better games won't solve the issue. He explains how the failure of the Xbox One launch irreparably harmed the future outlook of the brand due to a majority of consumers build their digital libraries in other ecosystems (Namely Sony's).
The future of Xbox is obviously the value of GamePass and widespread access, but it is interesting to hear from the head of Microsoft's gaming division that making impressive games isn't enough to win the console race.
