Sauron was Morgoth's most loyal servant in the First Age, but their goals were different. Morgoth wanted to destroy Middle-earth, while Sauron wanted to control it. Sauron grew in power while Morgoth became weaker. After the War of Wrath, Morgoth was defeated and Thangorodrim was destroyed. Sauron then adopted a fair form and repented of his evil deeds.
Morgoth was the first Dark Lord to plague the world in the First Age. He created many monstrous creatures and caused devastation. Although he was ultimately defeated, his evil influence continued into the Second Age and beyond. Túrin Turambar, the Man Morgoth cursed, eventually killed him.
