The Last Of Us Part 2 is unlike any game I have ever played. It's a sequel that no one could have predicted and that is the main reason why this game has divided the fanbase. It told a story that some people didn't connect with, I included, but it also did stick the landing for most people. My opinion on this game has shifted dramatically since I originally beat it and I have never felt this conflicted with a game before. On one hand, the gameplay is a masterpiece that has perfected the zombie killing formula while still staying grounded in reality. The accessibility options included have to be the standard for every game going forward so that any person that wants to play any game in this style, has the ability to. But on the other hand, the story told was ultimately one that I wish I never knew happened. One of my favorite characters Ellie has been turned into a hate-filled killing machine that is no longer the person we grew to cherish in the first game. We get to see the ramifications of Joel's decision to save Ellie and how that permanently affected their relationship for the worse. Just before they are able to start rebuilding their relationship, that is taken away from them in the most brutal way possible. Looking back, I wish we could have seen more of the gentler moments in Joel and Ellie's relationship but that was not meant to be. Just like the real world, this story is cold and depressing and just when there is an ounce of light, it is quickly extinguished. That's why The Last Of Us Part 2 is so compelling, it's because it feels a little too much like the reality we live in. This is A Divisive Masterpiece - Did The Last Of Us Part 2 Achieve Its Goal?
