As we find out in Endgame, Steve Rodgers is worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, but instead of catching it in the same way Thor does with his arm outstretched, Rodgers instead recoils his arm to help soften the catch. One reason could be that the God of Thunder is simply just stronger, but another could be that Captain America is used to the recoil of his arm when he catches his shield, whereas Thor knows that Mjolnir will stop directly at his hand.
