The underwater scenes were shot in one of the largest underwater sets ever constructed. It has the capacity of up to 500,000 liters (132,000 gallons) of water. Scuba divers swam in-between takes with scuba regulators so the actors and actresses could breathe without having to surface. During the course of filming, Daniel Radcliffe spent around 41 hours and 38 minutes under water. But it was not all easy going for the actor. At one point, while training, he inadvertently signaled that he was drowning, sending the crew into a total panic to get him back to the surface.
