When NBC acquired the rights to showcase the Premier League they decided to do a commercial which featured Jason Sudeikis as an American coach in London. The character was so popular that they ran another commercial a year later. After some convincing from friends and family, Sudeikis decided to develop a character and story line to the coach Ted Lasso, and low and behold several years later it was developed into a full series.
