Edward Norton was originally set to return as Bruce Banner, but negotiations with Marvel didn’t go so well. Mark Ruffalo graciously took the role, who is a close friend of Edward Norton. Mark was also considered to play the character in the 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk, that Edward Norton ended up getting. Mark ended up becoming the only actor to actually play both The Hulk and Bruce Banner since Eric Bana and Edward Norton originally played the Hulk through motion-capture work.
