The suits were actually quite problematic. Each of them was fitted with a little lithium battery that was used to light up the suits. So, the cast couldn’t just sit in between takes. They actually had to recline themselves. The batteries only lasted about twelve minutes, so they had to be switched on just as they started shooting and turned off just as they finished. The budget for the costumes alone was about 13 million. One suit for the racers was actually 60,000.
