Hell's Greatest Dad is a fan favourite song, but it’s actually a reference to another classic film.
The entire sequence is a reference to the 1992 animated disney film aladdin.
In aladdin, Genie performs the song Friend Like Me, showcasing all the mystical things you can wish for. Like the food, puppets, slot machines and immense wealth. As we know lucifer offers these same things to charlie.
The instrumental of genie’s song is extremely similar to lucifer’s. And to top it all off, in an interview lucifer’s voice actor jeremy jordan directly credited robin william’s genie character as the inspiration for lucifer’s personality.
After learning this, it’s so clear why lucifer and his first song are so memorable, especially when they pay tribute to robin william’s classic character.
