Here's a speedart that took days to complete. Overall time of drawing was over nine hours, but the actual amount of video footage put into the montage was about 8 hours 48 minutes (I approximated when I did the maths, so it might be off). Each island has a slightly different look and a different form of my character, Junior–minus the one with the other guy, of course. *That* would be his friend, Peter. From left to right is the duo (Junior and Peter), Junior in something acquitted to an alchemical lab, the one I simply called "Junior Centre" in the layers (he's the base form for all the rest, and Existence is eating away at him and his island there), a mage Junior wielding an amulet for magical firepower, and Junior also using magic to fly.

My art programme of choice is Art Rage Studio 3, but GIMP is also great when I need to add some special effects (which I didn't this time around). I use a Wacom Intuos 3 drawing tablet for precision, though you definitely can try to do it with a mouse or a cheaper tablet if you want to get into digital art. For just photo manipulation, probably go for the mouse, I find it can be much easier to just use a mouse to mess around with photos.
