Same concept as my first Thi4f video. Interactive gameplay on the left, non-interactive on the right. The timers are synched to the shorter part. Although I hate Metal Gear, MGS has actually more stealth than I remembered. When you consider pure gameplay only, you do spend a majority of the time not engaging with enemies. I also deliberately did not practice or try to optimize, because that would have artificially altered the amount of stealth, combat and cutscenes compared to one another. So I didn't rush through the stealth at maximum speed just to pretend there's even more cutscenes than there already are. but that also means I didn't speedrun the boss fights. Still, it's not like this is a full sample size since the assessment ends after the Grey Fox fight. If I recall correctly, the gameplay/narrative disparity only gets worse as the game goes on, and the amount of combat increases.

But what can definitely be said based on this experiment is that Metal Gear Solid is absolutely not a stealth game. Due to the numerous instances of completely mandatory combat and the fact that over half of the game is cutscenes and codec calls, it consists of a smaller portion of stealth gameplay than Far Cry 1.
