This was first discovered by DarkLawDelta on twitter. Shoutout to them for finding this odd glitch. Turns out it behaves quite simple. The game doesn't update the targeted amount of Digimon. So if you target your team of 3 and then switch to a multi target attack and attack a smaller amount of enemies, the difference in targets will force the game to compensate for the lack of valid enemies by attacking whatever Digimon remain on the field, starting from the right.
