Dimona, Israel / Pyramids Idiom? - 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) / Doctor Who The Armageddon Factor
The movie 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) appears to show an idiom which may connect Dimona, Israel to the Egyptian pyramids at one of the key turning points of the movie (when the dark side of the Hal 9000 computer first comes out).
Poole (Gary Lockwood) can be seen playing chess with Hal, this may be a reference to "arCADE". SCADA is a type of system that is used to control industrial systems which include nuclear reactors. Bowman (Keir (Cairo?) Dullea) shows his sketches (perhaps a reference to the Mona Lisa painting of Leonardo Da Vinci) of hibernating crew to Hal who then asks about the situation on the moon, where a mysterious object was found and a cover story used. Bowman and Poole must then repair a failed communications dish. During the EVA Bowman tints his visor. An orange backpack is shown in this scene which has a pyramidal feature in which the thrust jets are inbedded into the walls of the structure.
I showed in a previous video where this same backpack appears in Doctor Who The Armageddon Factor (1978). This episode shows both Romana (a reference to the Mona Lisa or Dimona?) actresses Mary Tamm and Lala Ward. It is the introduction of Lala Ward as princess Astra who would later replace Tamm as Romana II.
Dimona, Israel is home to a controversial nuclear research facilty in the southern part of the country near the border with Egypt.
