In 2001, Stronghold offered castle defense in a mix between RTS and city-builder. Since then, They Are Billions (2018) has revived interest in the formula with a mix of RTS and tower defense. Diplomacy is Not an Option thus finds itself in the middle of both influences, with waves of peasants instead of waves of zombies, and a focus on units rather than automatic defense. The whole thing is incredibly effective despite a few imperfections. -------
