"Discover the Meaning Behind the Garden of Gethsemane"
Quick word from the heart. Stay awake, with me.
The childhood abandonment wound extends into adulthood. As Jesus said, my god my god why have you forsaken me? Meant to represent that our parents have to leave us when they put us to bed or drop us off for school. It leaves us feeling alone and afraid and we often try and gravitate to those people or behaviors that make us feel safe. in or ignorance and innocence we may gravitate toward those things or people that are unhealthy and build up negative attachments or coping mechanisms. we never want our child to go through this so sometimes we will never let the child experience it, or we will shelter them from it as a means to spare them and also spare ourselves of the pain of putting them through it. But as in the story of Abraham and Isaac's a good parent will not spare the rod, as it's essential for growth and to develop strength, to face the trials as they become greater and greater as we age. (letting them sleep in the same bed for instance and then over time they build up conditioned behavior of being uncomfortable sleeping alone, etc) But if we spare the rod we spoil the child. These are learned behaviors that as adults we must unlearn. As parents we try our best to give our kids the best fighting chance for their physical and emotional growth, even if that means, saying NO. As adults, we no longer have our parents to tell us no so it's incumbent on us to make the right choices. Just like our physical parents, lay us down and return in the morning, our heavenly parents allows us to go through the pain of loss and abandonment, in order to strengthen us though it, and we come out stronger on the other side. It pained the father to turn his eyes away from Jesus to allow him to endure the cross, but it was necessary in order for Jesus to reach ascension and then share his glory after. The father knows what we have need of even before we do and we can rest assured he will come again, to show us we are never alone.
We dont need to travel half way across the world, to experience the garden, closer to home.
