Disruptor was Insomniac Games' very first game, and its low sales almost bankrupted the company. It's unfortunate that the game isn't more recognized because it plays fantastic on the PS1 controller. They really made sure you could strafe well and dodge, which is sometimes unusual to see for games of that time. You have your main weapons and alternate psionic abilities that you can use at the same time with ease. Then you also have jumping and the use buttons. They really spent time getting the controls right. The graphics and music is pretty cool too. Surprisingly it has a dynamic soundtrack, although it doesn't work the best at times. But you know me, I prefer ambient soundtracks for games with exploration. This game definitely deserves a reboot at some point.

It makes me wonder why such a great game didn't sell well and is relatively unheard of now. Insomniac is still around now and makes award-winning games, but perhaps this being their first it just didnt get enough notice. I could see its live motion video hurting it back in the day since it has cheesy acting. Now it kinda gives the game character. But the choir-boy protagonist you are given isn't particularly inspiring. You think he would be more of a bad ass given how much ass you kick in the game, but he aint. Maybe that's it, they put all their money on a very bland uninspiring character, which distracted everyone from the fantastic gameplay. Perhaps if they went with a minimal story approach, they could have made a good profit on this one!
