Disturbing Video Game Music 170: King Boo's Illusion - Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Why the heck do people say Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is watered down in terms of horror in regards to it's predecessor? The game is honestly much Much scarier at various points, and it all reaches a climax at the end of the game with King Boo.
In the first game King Boo kinda had an honorable goal: he wanted to protect the other boos. But in this game? Nope, King Boo has gone off the deep end and wants nothing more than to totally destroy the world of mortals by creating a rift in reality and, most of all, get revenge on the Mario brother that humiliated him. There is no Bowser suit here, just the king of boos and his dark magic: King Boo wants to PERSONALLY tear his enemy apart and revels in Luigi's terror the entire fight. King Boo's sheer malevolence and insanity comes through perfectly in his battle theme, which only gets more unhinged and intense when King Boo is on the ropes.
In just one boss fight, King Boo managed to be as dark, if not even DARKER, than most of the infamously creepy villains in the Mario RPGs... Now that is quite the accomplishment.
