One of the early 90's major hits, this was another great track to listen to driving. Written and recorded by the Australian rock band Divinyls, it was released in November 1990 as the lead single from their fourth album, diVINYLS. Regardless of whether you bought the LP or not, it was everywhere to be heard on radio or seen on MTV ... and a smash hit in the spring of 1991.
The controversial nature of the song takes on a whole new meaning in 2020 (as I have demonstrated in the video).
In the US the song was immensely popular and peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 18, 1991 and at #6 on the Cash Box Top 100 on May 11, 1990 for three weeks. It also reached #1 in Australia, #10 in the UK and #13 in Canada.
