A new rumor claims Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games has begun work on multiple PlayStation exclusive games; however, neither the studio nor Sony have corroborated as much. Until Dawn counts among the more interesting PlayStation exclusives from the last generation in that it didn't even begin as a PS4 title. Supermassive initially started production on PS3 with PS Move support in mind, an angle that fell to the cutting room floor during the development of the 2015 slasher project.”

“Sony is pulling PS Now retail cards from U.K. retailers. Gamers in the United Kingdom will no longer have the option to buy a subscription to PlayStation Now at U.K. retailers. By Friday, January 21, retailers in the country will have to pull PS Now cards from their shelves. This is according to messaging that is going out to stores like Game this week. PlayStation Now is Sony’s cloud-streaming and game-subscription service. It hosts hundreds of games, but it currently stands apart from Sony’s other gaming subscription, PlayStation Plus.”

Mark Cerny however seems to have potentially solved the problem – at least that’s what his new patent looks like. It’s titled “Backward Compatibility Through Use Of Spoof Clock and Fine Grain Frequency Control”. While a proper technological understanding of the patent’s description does admittedly evade me, there are specific claims that at least sound to be quite telling. In particular, claim 11 already begins to suggest that this is a solution to getting games from all generations running on PS5 and PS4. “11. The method of claim 1, wherein the different version of the system is a less powerful system than the current version of the system.”

The development of the PlayStation 5 started off in 2015 and then was released in November 2020. So, it is safe to assume, the PlayStation 6 is already in development and it is going to be another winner on our hands. While nobody knows how the gaming console from Sony will look, this concept by She Yin gives us an idea. The designer deems it as a PlayStation 5 console concept design practice, but this is the perfect opportunity to assume the design of the PS6 console.”
