Does HeroQuest Need House Rules? | Discussing Roll and Move Plus Other Game Mechanisms
Always Board Never Boring is always looking for an excuse to talk about HeroQuest. Today, he poses the question, "Does HeroQuest need fixing?"
Actually he doesn't, because that's a stupid question that would imply HeroQuest is broken. We all know HeroQuest is awesome.
But, ABNB is discussing some of the rules that some people may find less appealing in one of the greatest dungeon crawling adventure games of all time. He goes through five (potential) issues with the game and looks at some (possible) changes people might like to make.
Here are some time stamps if you would like to skip to a particular discussion point:
00:00 Intro
01:12 Roll and move
04:59 Healing potions
07:46 Searching
08:43 Time to explore
10:08 Turn order
12:12 Final thoughts on Zargon
Also, ABNB never thought to mention it in this video, but there is an interesting difference between the NA and Euro editions of the game. In the NA rules, when you find potions in the treasure deck you add them to your sheet and keep them. In the Euro edition, you keep the treasure card for the duration of the game, but have to return it to the deck when you finish the adventure. That means you only get to keep artefacts, equipment, and the potions you find that don't come from the treasure deck. This is another way of preventing heroes from stockpiling too many potions.
