Dolphin Blue, an Atomiswave game running on Dreamcast. Let's play long-play. Skinner and A-Bomb.
Dolphin Blue, 2003, from Sammy. It's an Atomiswave arcade game that never got a home port. But recently some smart people figured out how to get Atomiswave games running on the similar Dreamcast hardware. The Atomiswave used cartridges, and apparently some of the DIY-ported games required you to use a ODE, or a serial port SD adapter to get them to run because of the slower read speeds of a disc, but this game runs pretty well off of a CDR, which is how we are playing.
We want to check out some of the other games, so I'll have to look into the serial port option. Dolphin Blue is a side scrolling run-and-gun in the vein of Metal Slug or Alien Hominid, but with an ocean setting. And you can attack people with a dolphin. The graphics are a mix of 2D and 3D and work really well. The overall look kind of reminded me of Power Stone. Some of the bosses look like Sonic villains.
A-Bomb continues the tradition of making co-operative games competitive, and repeatedly accused me of stealing his power-ups. We both enjoyed the game, but didn't realize how long it was going to be. Probably shouldn't have played it so late at night. A-Bomb gives it a pretty good review, minus the lengthy boss fights, and the occasional lack of dolphins.
