Donkey Kong Country Returns Two-Player Playthrough - World 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me and a friend playing through Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. This was recorded directly from my Wii (not the Wii U). I'm player one (Donkey Kong) and Peter is player two (Diddy Kong).
I felt like posting a new playthrough of this game in 60 fps, and Peter agreed to join me on my little excursion, so here's a higher quality playthrough of this Wii classic.
I was a big fan of the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, so I was really excited when Nintendo announced that it was bringing the series back for the Wii. Peter and I had played through New Super Mario Bros. Wii right when it came out in 2009, and we really enjoyed the multiplayer 2D gameplay. But we were hungry for more 2D goodness.
When Nintendo announced that Donkey Kong Country Returns was going to have simultaneous two-player support, I just knew that I couldn't pass it up. I bought the game the day it came out and Peter and I completed it shortly after that. We certainly died a lot, but we had a lot of fun.
This game is amazing to say the least. I love that it stays true to the challenging nature of the series and I especially love that Donkey and Diddy have different abilities. It reminds me of games like Super Mario Bros. 2 or Double Dragon III on the NES. Donkey Kong is the more challenging character in this game, so I'm using him and letting Peter utilize Diddy's hover ability.
My biggest complaint, however, is that Retro Studios didn't bring back any animal friends other than Rambi. To me, it seemed like a wasted opportunity. But aside from that, I just love this game, especially the music.
We'll be collecting all the KONG letters along the way so that we can complete every level, but we'll be missing puzzle pieces here and there, so this isn't a 100% walkthrough. Enjoy the footage.
In this first part we started a new save file and completed World 1: Jungle.
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the Wii's component cables at 60 frames per second.
We're using Wii Remotes.
