Hello and welcome to Lord Fenton Gaming plays Ultima IV Quest of the Avatar. I am your host Lord Fenton In this Don't Panic New Player guide, I am going over Ultima 4 Quest of the Avatar. In this Ultima IV New Player guide, I will go over everything from magic & spells, combat, equipment, exploring the world, the eight virtues, paths to level up your character and more. Do not panic, Help is on the way for Ultima 4 Quest of the Avatar. As always like, comment and subscribe to my channel for more classic gaming videos like this.





Note: I am playing the original MS-DOS version of the game. The version is from GoG. No fan patches or anything like it.

Note: What ever the virtue you picked the most is your class. If you want to go melee go Paladin or Tinker. If you want to go magic heavy go Druid or Mage since they can cast more spells with the MP they have than any other class. A Bard and Ranger are good choices too. Fighters are alright but challenging due to no magic and limited range weapons. Shepard will make it hard but if you want a challenge with no spell casting at all this is the class to do it.

Note: The Companions as follows. Iolo the bard can equip some weapon and armor plus use magic. Jaana the druid can use magic more than Iolo thanks to the 1.5x INT for MP, use a few weapons and armor. Jaana is great for the first caster since she is on the main lands. Julia is a tinker that can really use some good armor and best weapons. Julia lacks some MP is the downside. Mariah the mage cannot use many weapons and armor except the magic wand. Mariah the mage however can use magic and cast the most spells in the game thanks to 2X INT. Dupre is a paladin. Dupre can use the best store bought weapons and armor. Dupre magic is on pare with Iolo. Shamino is a ranger. Shamino can use some weapons and armor. Spell casting for Shamino is like Iolo. Geoffrey the Fighter can use most armor and some weapons. Geoffrey weakness is not able to cast magic. Katrina the Shepherd can use only a few weapons and armor. Katrina cannot cast magic. Use my order to add the party members for full benefits in the game.
