Those of you who don't know, the Doom 3 BFG Edition's PC version is very disappointing. It honestly doesn't look any better than the original (with the exception that skin textures do look better, but that's it). If you want to get Doom 3, go ahead and get the original. At least then it's moddable, has a lot of very nice maps, and you can get it looking like this.

Also, I'd just like to point out that I'm on the highest (non-nightmare) difficulty, and I have almost maximum ammo WITHOUT BFG Edition. BFG Edition actually increases the amount of ammo you get from pickups.
